KPO held HSE Awareness Forum for SIP Contractors

Uralsk, West Kazakhstan Oblast, 8 February, 2018 – Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) held HSE Awareness Forum for Social & Infrastructure Projects (SIP) current and potential contractors.

The main objective of this event is to introduce with KPO HSE requirements and ensure appropriate fulfilment of these requirements in Civil Construction and Road Construction & Repair activities on execution of SIPs. The event was attended by the KPO management, KPO employees and Contractors` representatives.

Addressing the HSE Social Projects Awareness Forum participants Graham Roberts, KPO Safety and Asset Integrity Controller said: “KPO HSE statistics is one of the best among the oil and gas enterprises of Kazakhstan and worldwide. Our goal is simple: no harm to people or the environment. To achieve such results, we implement a whole range of initiatives to prevent accidents and incidents. Conscious safety leadership by company management and the compliance by everyone with safety regulations is an integral part of the production culture in KPO and its contracting companies’’.

“This forum is an event aimed to introduce and develop KPO HSE awareness culture, HSE requirements, way to eliminate previous HSE shortcomings and also demonstrate good practice showed by all social project contractors that will ultimately engage Local Suppliers to the construction process and delivery of goods, services and works”, noted Graham Roberts.

As it has been noted, KPO annually implements a large number of social infrastructure projects in West-Kazakhstan Oblast including construction of health, education, culture and sports facilities; only Kazakh contractors are hired to execute the works. The projects are selected and prioritised by WKO authorities.

Also representatives of KPO contracting companies were awarded with encouraging awards at the forum for the best HSE performance.

"Such forums allow contractors to adopt the best practices of the Karachaganak and provide opportunity to look at some of the challenges that we jointly face and share good practices on maintaining and improving HSE performance," noted Anvar Agayev, “AksaiBusinessStroy” General Director.

In addition, the forum provided an opportunity to share opinions and knowledge of various approaches and methods to identify and assess the HSE Risk aspect applied in various companies.

KPO remained committed to the highest standards of occupational health, safety and environmental performance and actively promotes a culture where the ownership of safety is shared across the company and its contractors.

KPO believes that this forum will contribute to long-term development of the local supply chain coupled with the transfer of knowledge and experience in HSE practices, as well as increase their knowledge, experience and skills.

The local companies – forum participants shared their positive feedbacks and thanked KPO for organising such HSE Social Projects Awareness Forum.

At the conclusion of the event participants noted, that the forum was very useful and fruitful for both Contractors and KPO.
