AKSAI, Western Kazakhstan Oblast, 15 December 2003 – Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) has announced that one of its top managers, Nurzhan Kamalov, Corporate Affairs and HSE Controller, has been honoured by the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev with a prestigious Eren Enbek Ushin medal at a ceremony in Uralsk to mark the RoK Independence Day.

The medal was presented by the new Akim of Western Kazakhstan Oblast Nurgali Ashimov.

“I am delighted to have been chosen to receive the Eren Enbek Ushin medal”, said Nurzhan Kamalov. "I believe this medal not only recognizes my achievements, but also the efforts of many people that I am privileged to work with in Karachaganak."

KPO general director Paolo Campelli said: “The Eren Enbek Ushin medal honours outstanding business contributions and we at KPO are especially proud that our most senior national manager has received such a high recognition. We also take this prestigious medal as a credit to the Karachaganak project and its contribution to national economy”.

Nurzhan Kamalov has been working on the Karachaganak project since 1989. During this time Nurzhan has held a number of important positions and is the first national employee to perform a top management role.
