URALSK, Western Kazakhstan Oblast, 11 July 2003 – This summer, the US Peace Corps volunteers, through the financial support of Karachaganak Integrated Organisation (KIO), are hosting a summer English camp for the schoolchildren of Uralsk and Aksai at the Eurasia campgrounds, in Uralsk.

The purpose of the educational Summer camp is to help Kazakhstani schoolchildren to improve their English and business skills.

According to Robert Bassak, US Peace Corps Economic Development Volunteer, the main aim is not only to improve English language skills, but to give students an opportunity to actually speak and practice the language. The programme of the Summer Camp will also include four educational sessions each day to teach basic business topics, introduce environmental awareness and protection topics, as well as improve language skills.

Commenting on KIO’s participation in the event, John Morrow, KIO General Director, said: "It is very important for us to support the younger generation, and to develop the education system in the WKO. Besides the annual $10 mln investment in social projects, KIO allocates additional funding for academic and other sponsorship projects".

In 2002 KIO implemented over 70 sponsorship projects in the fields of healthcare, sports, education, and culture.
