KPO held Workshop on "Local Content in Goods: Strategic Development of the Country and Industry"

Astana, June 26, 2024 — Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) in collaboration with the Association of Oil Service Companies of Kazakhstan «Kazservice» held a workshop titled «Local Content in Goods: Strategic Development of the Country and Industry».

The event was attended by the Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, government officials, KPO top management, and representatives from local business manufacturers.

Marco Marsili, KPO General Director, in his opening speech emphasized the significance of local content development at Karachaganak: «The enhancement of local content within the Karachaganak field is important not only for strengthening the national economy but also for ensuring sustainable development within the industry. Recently, KPO has analysed procurement activities in 12 categories of goods — this resulted in short- and medium-term localization plans that were subsequently shared with the local market. The aim of this seminar and future technical workshops, that KPO plans to conduct, is to facilitate a more practical dialogue with local goods manufacturers. By prioritizing domestic goods, works and services we are fostering a strong supply chain that benefits all stakeholders».

During the workshop, the participants discussed current challenges and opportunities for enhancing local content when supplying works, services and, more importantly, goods, for large oil and gas projects. Representatives from local business manufacturers shared their perspectives on the current market conditions and potential areas for improvement in the procurement processes across the industry.

The workshop concluded with B2B (Business to Business) sessions where attendees could delve deeper into specific technical issues, and had the opportunity to establish new contacts and strengthen existing partnerships. Such collaborative environment is expected to drive further progress in local content development and foster a more integrated approach to industry challenges.
