KPO completes new rural school

AKSAI, Western Kazakhstan Oblast, 19 October 2012 – Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) has announced that a new secondary school for 198 pupils built by the company as part of the state programme “100 schools, 100 hospitals” in Koneketken village in Terektinskiy district of the Western Kazakhstan oblast was successfully put into operation.

A total amount of KPO investments in this social project made up $2.9 million.  The Uralsk construction company “Otdelstroy” was the main contractor of the project.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the administration of the West-Kazakhstan oblast and Terektinskiy district, representatives of the district department of education as well as top management of KPO and contractors.

The WKO Akim Nurlan Nogayev noted that construction of schools and hospitals is a primary focus of government policy that is aimed at improvement of social well-being of Kazakhstan’s people.  Currently, four more schools are being constructed by KPO.  “This particular school was named after Uraz Isayev, a state leader of Kazakhstan and that shall call for a definite responsibility both of teachers and pupils, in order to keep the honour and to teach and learn excellently”,- added Nurlan Nogayev.

Otezh Zhumashev , the School Principal, said: “The construction of this new school symbolizes the real care of KPO for the young generation, because our old school that had been built 50 years ago was in a dangerous condition''.

“Now this school will be home for 178 pupils and 39 teachers.  On behalf of the school management, I would like to congratulate you with the start of the new school year and wish the children success in studying and creative success for the teachers”, he added.

At KPO expense, the school was fully equipped with furniture, computers, and learning materials.  The two-storey school has teaching classes, sports and conference halls, well equipped rooms for study of Chemistry, Physics and Biology.  There are fine workshops, sewing workshop, canteen for 65 people and a library. In addition, the school area has been planted with trees and landscaped.

Earlier, KPO has also put into operation a technical water pipeline in Uspenovka village in Burlinskiy district that was fully reconstructed by KPO as part of its social infrastructure development programme, 

The KPO social programme is focused on construction of healthcare, education, culture and sports facilities.  The priority of projects is defined by the Western Kazakhstan administration.  All KPO social projects are fulfilled involving only Kazakh contractors.
